Happy Heads

Let me remind you of the previous article I wrote about the quarantine time skincare. I explained in detail how to take this time to take shelter in your cocoon and come out like a beautiful butterfly. Seems like my words triggered the universe or what and now we have another 21 days to social distancing now. The nations are in lockdown and the motion is standing still. Make the most of all the time you have got for now.

How to make your own sanitizer and face mask

This might be your one fine chance to breathe, to rethink your life make amends in lifestyle and take a step back from the fast walk. Haven’t been able to pamper, practice a hobby, manifest a fitness regime. Try spiritual yoga practice maybe and connect to your higher selves. Take some time out.

Do what you’ve always planned for and make use of these days as it is probably once in your lifetime. Care for your skin and body follow a regime and try some home remedies maybe. Today I will add a bit of Haircare to your beauty regime, making isolation days a little more worthy for you.

Here is what you can begin with

1. Soothing Head Massage

One of my favorite routines is the mustard oil head massage, but you can use any other hair oil as well. Ask your loveable mom or anyone at home or do it yourself. Not only it is relaxing but it also improves blood flow and promotes hair growth.

You could also practice hot oil massage that mimics the natural oil found in your hair sebum. Regular hair washes strip away the natural oil content from hairs, leaving your lustrous hairs to dry out and become dull over time. You can use a variety of oils from coconut, castor, olive oil, to almond or mustard oil as well. As a point to remember you should never oil a dirty head as it may trigger more hair fall.

Warm the oil rubbing it between the palm and massage with fingertips over the scalp. Repeating twice a week would strengthen the hair roots, nourish the scalp, reduce dryness and restore the lost shine to its pristine. It is easy and takes less effort and time. Any hair care routine is incomplete without a head massage.

2. Curd and Lemon for dandruff-free scalp

Dry scalp and dandruff are the most common concern for many. Dandruff scientifically known as seborrhoeic dermatitis is generally recurring. It could be caused by a number of factors and it could be hereditary as well. An amazing recipe to get rid of dandruff is by using curd and lemon. Curd being rich in vitamin B5 and vitamin D is a superfood for haircare regimes.

Mix it with a tablespoon of lemon juice and apply it on your scalp. Let it dry for 30mins and rinse it off. Using this mixture once a week on the scalp can get rid of dandruff fast, imparting back the silky and shiny texture of your hair. Curd with its amazing anti-bacterial properties that can also reduce the stubborn itchiness in the head.

3. Egg yolk for Hair Moisturizer

Egg yolks are rich in vitamins like A and E, biotin, and folate, essentially being the soul food for hair. Rigorous research has linked these nutrients to promote hair growth and healthy hair. Egg yolk mixture can be your bet on pampering haircare session for Rapunzel-like hairs, as it enhances hair texture and luster.

Take one to two egg yolk based on your hair length and density. Add in some teaspoons of honey or olive oil and mix well. Apply this pack with a hairbrush for easy application. Let it sit for an hour or two and rinse it off with cold water along with a head bath to get rid of any eggy smell.

Repeat after a fortnight for softest hair results ever. Regular applications can repair dry and brittle hair and diminishes any damages from constant heating and styling. This amazing hair spa feeling at home is out of the world.

4. Honey and Banana for frizz and split hair ends

Honey has miraculous properties for hair care, known as humectants and emollient. It helps in preserving the shine as well as moisture of your hair. While banana packed with potassium folic acid can nourish your hair and reduce occurrences of split ends.

Who could say no to shiny and healthy hair?

So here you have an amazing recipe for your hair care regime. Try some spoons of honey and mashed banana paste to regain back the long lost luster and shine. This recipe also helps get rid of the crazy frizz from the hairs. You can optionally add in some drops of essential oils like tea tree or hair oils like olive or coconut oil. Mix it well and apply the hair mask with a hairbrush. Leave it on for 20-30 mins and rinse off with lukewarm water.

The mix contains a good balance of minerals, amino acids, vitamins and anti-oxidants for locking in the moisture and imparting shine to the hairs. Fall in love with your smooth and shiny hair all over again with this simple routine.

5. Adding in more protein to your plate

Hairs are made of proteins and need the same for their growth cycle. While Indian Diets are fulfilling with whole grains, they seldom add enough protein to our body needs. Lack of protein may also be a cause of dry and damaged hair. Add power protein to your food and snacks with enough vegetables and fruits.

Try incorporating soya chunks, chickpeas, tofu, eggs, and other dairy products to your food. You could further consult with a nutritionist if you have certain health conditions that restrict certain foods to be taken. Only the right diet can nourish our body to keep the essentials at balance. As said, “You are what you eat”

6. Sleep! Sleep! Beauty Sleep!

Now I know it would be the favorite one for many, while others would say they are done sleeping through long hours these days and are totally done with it. Let me clear it. When I say I want you to sleep, I don’t mean it to be some odd hour naps. A good beauty sleeps in a nightly routine.

Take out a scheduled time for a good 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily. And make it timely without scrolling screens over the phone. A night of good sleep has an impact on your overall body, from hairs to skin and growth of your muscles after workouts.

Though we might not have sound sleep during our hectic life runs, these lockdown days have given us quite ample time to make amends in our daily routine. Good sleep also boosts immunity and can be beneficial to stay healthy in times like this.

For those insomniacs out there who would really like to count in some hours of sleep, I recommend counting in a few Surya namaskars each day. Long sleep could not only avoid stress and stressful people but also help cope up with toxic relationships. The smallest change like sleep patterns can have gigantic impacts on the way we perceive our lives.

Try Surya namaskars?

This lockdown can be boon for those who want the whims back on their life. It could be your power steer before you hit that road again!

So rejoice and care for yourself the way you really deserve. Don’t just read but act and do let me know about the experiences in the comment down below. Until then take care 💓and I won’t say, Garnier 😛
